Marine Escorts

Protecting nuclear material during marine operations is vital in safeguarding the public and ensuring the Constabulary successfully fulfils its mission of "the safe and secure movement of nuclear material within the UK and Internationally".

Once out of your probation, you will be eligible to apply for the Marine Escort Group, who are a specialist team that provide on board armed protection of the nuclear cargo during overseas operations. To be able to perform this role, you will receive demanding and bespoke training courses with the Royal Navy and other Police Forces and agencies in order to ensure that you have the correct skill base to operate in such an environment.

The Marine Escort Group is made up of officers from CNC Operational Policing Units throughout the UK who perform regular unit policing duties when not engaged in any training or operations. Consequently, whichever unit you are posted to you will not be disadvantaged in any way and will be eligible to apply for the team, should you wish to.

Road Escorts

The Constabulary also has a Road Escort capability for the protection of nuclear material. The Road Escort Group is a specialist team whose primary aim is to protect and secure nuclear material during transportation by road or rail.

Once out of your probation, you will be eligible to apply to the Road Escort Group where you will receive a demanding training package that focuses on techniques and tactics in order to effectively meet any potential threats during an operation. Some officers within this team also receive training from other Police Forces in surveillance and advanced driving.

The Road Escort Group is made up of officers from CNC Operational Policing Units throughout the UK who perform regular unit policing duties when not engaged in any training or operations.
