Job title: Head of Management Accounting

Working location: Culham

Finance at the CNC covers financial and management accounting. I head the management accounts team which provides support to budget holders and covers all aspects of management accounting including preparing budgets and forecasts and producing monthly performance reports. Our work also requires us to build strong internal and external client relations, provide financial management training to non-finance managers and administrators, and financial problem resolution.

The finance team is closely knit and supportive, and I enjoy the current working ethos in the department. Culham is pleasant to work in, and I enjoy walking around the site at lunchtimes. As Head of Management Accounting, I’m involved in a wide variety of work. The working environment is dynamic and needs flexible responses to the many different and varied situations which might arise. My team could be looking at ways to improve the management accounting functions by changing the ways we work, or examining why certain policies are being implemented ‘off process’. We’re constantly looking at how best to meet business needs, while protecting the reputation of the Chief Constable as Accounting Officer. A lot of my work involves tackling new problems and producing imaginative solutions, whilst continuing to deliver standard management information to agreed quality and timescales.

The Finance department and the CNC as a whole have always given me lots of support throughout my career. I was given support in gaining a management degree (and membership of the Chartered Management Institute) and a professional accountancy qualification (and membership of the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants).
