Military Personnel

As a serving or retired member of the Armed Forces, you have a wealth of experience and skills and are used to carrying out a vitally important role.

But have you thought about entering the policing sphere as a warranted police officer and Authorised Firearms Officer (AFO) with the Civil Nuclear Constabulary? Or one of the other many police staff support roles in departments including procurement, IT and finance?

We play a vital role in counter terrorism and offer world-class firearms training to our officers. We can help you continue to develop the skills you already have while developing new ones. And all in an environment you’ll be familiar with and while continuing to be an important part of protecting the country.

So what could you expect if you do decide to join the CNC? If you join us as an AFO, you will work a four on/four off 12-hour shift pattern, considered one of the most desirable in the policing world and allowing for an excellent work/life balance. Although overtime is available, you will start and finish at your allotted times so you can plan your personal life accordingly around your shifts.

You will also be based in some of the most stunning parts of the country with beautiful scenery on your doorstep. And after you complete your probation, you can apply to join one of our specialist departments such as the Strategic Escort Group or our Dog Section, depending on which unit you are based at and vacancies available. Or you can specialise yourself by training to become an Enhanced Carbine officer, a Dynamic Search and Interdiction officer, a Police Medic or a nationally accredited Police Firearms Instructor.

Armed Forces Covenant

The CNC currently holds a Silver Award in the Armed Forces Covenant Employer Recognition Scheme (ERS) and are currently working hard to achieve our gold.

The ERS recognises the commitment and support that UK employers offer to defence personnel. The Silver Award is given to organisations who have pledged to  support the armed forces by signing the Armed Forces Covenant, have proactively demonstrated that service personnel/armed forces community are not unfairly disadvantaged as part of their recruiting and selection processes, and actively ensured that their workforce is aware of their positive policies towards defence people issues.

We are proud to support those who serve or have served in the armed forces and their families and hope to announce our gold award in 2023-2024.
